DOXA DEO CITY CHANGERS INSTITUTE
DANCE MINISTRY

  1. Art for Living Syllabus for Dance

About AFL

Art for Living is Christ-centered training for those with a passion for the ministry of dance in the church.  We aim to impact our students’ spiritual lives with the Biblical Mandate for the arts to release them to reach their God-given potential.
The Art for Living Teacher’s Training program endeavours to give technical training in the syllabi, teaching skills and the full scope of being a dance teacher.  We impart knowledge of the technique of dance and the qualities required for the dance methods used, to empower the teacher with the ability to enable her students to reach their full potential.  All modules and subjects are taught Christ-centered and with the purpose of releasing Christ in and through the student teachers.

1. Vision

Surrender, Serve, Subdue:

To produce teachers who give expression in teaching and dancing to the revelation they’ve received of the Person of Christ, having been empowered through the renewing of their minds in the Presence of Christ, to impact their students and local church with the Purposes of Christ
Surrender –     We teach and support the student in his/her relationship with the person of Christ to see Christ form in him/her, cultivating a Passion for God and a Passion for Integrity expressed in a walk of humility.
Serve -             We work for transformation in lives and communities through the presence of Christ in the everyday activities of the teacher to see Christ formed in our students and congregation, cultivating a passion for people and service expressed in a constant walk of love.
Subdue -          We equip the teacher to conform his/her sphere of influence in the dance world to the purposes of Christ to see Christ formed in all things, cultivating a passion for cities and nations.

2. Mission

To provide a firm Biblical foundation and philosophy of the arts, while also focusing on the character and integrity of the artist.
To provide excellent training in dance technique and teaching skills.
To allow students to learn and grow in relationships with other teachers, artists and ministers to better equip them for the ministry.

3. Values

  • TO ESTABLISH
To establish a Biblical mandate of prophesy, ministry, praise and worship, celebration of life, proclamation and outreach for dance within the framework of the Doxa Deo family.
To establish a new and accessible framework for the development of Dance in the city of Tshwane and in our nation.
  • TO DEVELOP
To develop the physical, mental and spiritual potential of all people through dance by excellent training of teachers, that they can teach students, and through excellent products.
  • TO MAKE ACCESSIBLE
To make dance accessible to people of all ages and cultural backgrounds.
  • TO REFORM
To reform secular Dance, bringing it back to the original purpose and intent of God’s plan and glory.

Our purpose and aim of the Training

  • The Teachers Training program in the Art for Living (AFL) syllabus is there to train students in the knowledge of the syllabi, teaching skills and the full scope as dance teacher. Aiming to impart knowledge of technique of dance and the qualities that are required for the dance methods used, so that teachers can take the students or group they are working with to their full potential.

  • Our aim is to develop the teacher as a whole person and not as a dance teacher so that they will be equipped to lead and guide people in the dance ministry to communicate Christ clearly and efficiently through the art form of dance to the body of Christ and others needing Christ, with knowledge beyond technique but the practical processes of a ministry and dance studio.
  • We want to impart a love for God for who He is and to develop a teacher’s spiritual capacity as becoming a minister for the “church” without inhibitions but with the freedom that God has given to speak His heart.

  • We want to develop teachers as leaders in the dance community who will bring forth the Christ within and change and transform our city to become a City where the Glory of God shines through.
  • We want to impart the philosophy of the biblical understanding of art and the value that God places on art as an expression of His voice and heart.

  • We are going to challenge teachers in developing their prophetic skills as their expression, to bring order and to release Christ to the students and to the congregation.

4. Requirements

There are no technical prerequisites to enrolling for the basic associate, only a heart for God and a desire to express who He is through dance.
We do however advise students starting the course to start equipping themselves technically to quicken their journey in the dance ministry and to enable them to better express God through dance.  The program does require a fair amount of technical skill and students have to equip themselves during the course to be able to perform the exercises correctly.
For the advanced associate, the candidate must have passed either AFL Level 3 or Elementary Ballet.

Who should apply

Everyone with a heart for the ministry, and the ministry of dance with a desire to grow in knowledge of dance and Christ and to see others discover the fullness of God through dance (reproduction).
